Eddie FarahDecember 29, 2007 1:33 AMThe Christmas season is supposed to bring good cheer, but eleven people and their families suffered tragedy this holiday season.
3,877 crashes killed 11 on state roadways according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety. Altogether 893 were injured.
Believe it or not, the predictions had been that as many as 25 would be killed on Georgia roads during the four-day-holiday. Falling short on that prediction might be a sign of taking highway safety seriously by motorists.
The holiday began Friday evening and ended midnight Tuesday.
Last year there were 22 killed during the holidays in 2,482 crashes. 1,107 were injured.
And even though everyone takes to the roads during the travel period between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day, it is one of the most deadly times to be traveling all year. Last December in the state 139 were killed in December alone and half did not wear seat belts.
High visibility law enforcement translates to fewer crashes so expect more troopers on the Georgia state roads between now and the end of the year. Let's not live up to the prediction for fatalities by years end.
