The Florida Highway Patrol plans a statewide traffic enforcement plan for New Year's Eve. Expect "Zero Tolerance" from troopers throughout the state.
Troopers will be looking for speeding, seat belt violations, DUI drivers and targeting aggressive and hazardous drivers. For pedestrians, motorcyclists and bicyclists, there is an additional risk of traveling close to traffic.
FHP's Colonel Czernis, "The more troopers working the road, assisting the public, and enforcing the laws, the better we are able to achieve our vision of a Safer Florida!"
Motorists who observe an impared or dangerous driver dial *FHP from their cell phones. (*347) or star-3-4-7. The caller does not have to give their name. You can use that number to call if you have car trouble too. The FHP keeps you updated on safety tips, maps and road conditions from the FHP web site www.fhp.state.fl.us.
The New Year holiday trooper presence begins at midnight Saturday December 29th and ends at midnight, Tuesday, January 1, 2008
