This is an auto accident that could have had a very different outcome.

A woman driving a small SUV ran a stop sign early Thursday morning and hit a school bus. It happened in northwest Jacksonville as the bus was traveling to school. The driver was injured as was one of her two young children in the backseat. Apparently the 14-month old child's car seat was not properly secured.

The other child was not hospitalized but a witness saw her running out of the SUV screaming "My mom, my mom."

And a student on the bus heading for Stillwell Middle School was injured with a minor cut to his neck

The mother is improving in Shands-Jacksonville though she was admitted in critical condition.

Her child has life-threatening injuries.

No one has any idea why this happened but the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating and has not ruled out filing charges.

Regardless, any fire station can help you properly secure a child safety seat. There is no point in having one if they are not secured properly and there is no excuse to fail to keep your young children safe in the car.
