It is a question of being in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong drivers involved.

Two weeks ago, a truck and a fire engine collided at an intersection. Four firefighters were injured.

Luckily no one was killed.

Now after an investigation by the FHP, no charges will be filed because everyone was at fault.

Engine 51 had its lights on and was speeding to a trailer park fire. The truck traveling about 45 miles per hour with sirens and lights on passed stopped traffic at Phillips Highway and Southside Boulevard.

But a commercial truck either didn't see or didn't hear the fire engine and struck Engine 51. The fire truck rolled over and landed on its side.

One firefighter remains in rehabilitation. The driver of the truck was not hurt.
Now who is at fault? FHP says the truck driver failed to observe the fire engine and yield to it even though he had a green light.

And the fire engine driver needed to show more caution when approaching and going through an intersection. A fire truck does not have to legally stop at a red light when it is responding to an emergency.

It's probably a good idea to turn down those headsets when driving and stay alert to just these sorts of audio cues that can mean the difference between life and death.
