Hero Rescues Children Following Head-On

It took the courage of one woman to save the lives of three children riding in an SUV who were hit head-on Monday.

The as-yet unidentified woman was traveling north on AIA from Duval into Nassau County when the Dodge Neon in front of her crossed the median into oncoming traffic. The 17-year old driver, Lawrence Brown was following his father to work in Amelia Island. No word on why he crossed the median.

Brown died on the scene after hitting a Toyota Sequoia with six passengers on board, three of them children.

The motorist quickly called 911, then approached the twisted wreck of the SUV, found the doors were locked then broke out the windows and rescued the children. FHP says she likely saved their lives. The Toyota soon burst into flames and burned down to the frame.

The collision occurred just south of the Nassau Sound Bridge. Two of the Toyota passengers were airlifted to Shands Jacksonville. One woman remains in serious condition. The wreck closed down traffic for miles in both directions. Congratulations to the one woman who thought and acted quickly to save lifes. She should be recognized for her heroics.
