Why would a driver travel north in the southbound lanes of I-95?

It happened just before midnight Wednesday according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The northbound car crashed into an SUV. Both car's drivers were killed instantly.

47-year old Richard Welch of Palm Coast was heading north driving the wrong way when he struck the Chevrolet Suburban head-on.

49-year old Mary Jordan of Port Salerno was the driver of the car he hit.

Two passengers in her car were taken to Shands-Jacksonville and reported to be in serious and critical condition.

A third car was forced off the road and that driver was taken to Flagler Hospital with minor injuries.

The southbound lanes of I-95 were finally opened around 4:30 in the morning after the wreck was investigated and cleared.
