A Jacksonville woman says she's lucky to be alive after her car's windshield was shot by a small caliber gun
during morning rush-hour traffic Wednesday.

Rebecca Morrison was traveling along Interstate-295 on the Westside in the southbound lanes between Pritchard Road and the Commonwealth Avenue exit. The Sheriff's office believes a 22-caliber gun might have left the nickel-sized hole in her windshield.

Morrison was rattled by the jolt to her car but she didn't veer out of her lane, which could have caused multiple traffic problems.

The attack was reminiscent of what happened along I-295 more than a dozen years ago. Morrison feels fortunate.

She said she remembers when the stretch of I-295 was called the Highway to Hell after multiple incidents of cars being shot and rocks and bricks being thrown through windshields. The incidents left one man dead and a woman severely injured.

Those shootings remain unsolved. So far there are no suspects or leads in this traffic shooting.
