Police In I-10 Pursuit Hit Woman's Car

Chiffon Powell was driving home with friends around 4 a.m. Friday when she looked up and saw flashing lights.

That's what she remembers seeing before her car was struck and she lost control of the vehicle, hitting the median wall of I-10 westbound at Stockton Street.

21-year-old Powell was struck by a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office police cruiser in pursuit of a speeding car. The speeder got away but both the cruiser and Powell's car were wrecked.

JSO Officer Jason Mann began the chase on I-95 heading west on I-10. When the speeder swerved around Powell's car, the left front of Mann's vehicle hit the read of Powell's car.

Fortunately, neither Mann nor Powell were seriously injured.

The suspect vehicle, which was not involved in the crash, continued westbound. Police describe it as a burgundy car, possibly a Buick, with a Tampa Bay Buccaneers sticker on the back.
