Eddie FarahJune 29, 2007 2:05 PMAnd we're sorry to report that another young woman lost her life on Jacksonville area roads this week.
It happened in Green Cove Springs on State Road 16, near Reynolds Industrial Park.
Around 11:20 Wednesday morning, June 27, Leila J. Davis turned into the path of an oncoming cement truck.
The pregnant 37 year old and her unborn child died instantly, police believe.
The St. Augustine Beach woman, driving a minivan, turned in front of the oncoming cement truck for some unknown reason. She and her seat were both ejected from the van. The cement rig was flipped on its side.
The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital but not seriously injured.
Investigators said weather and visibility were not factors at the time of the crash. They are hoping to learn whether driver was distracted or what else may have contributed to the collision.
Troopers said one lane of state Road 16 was open alternating traffic while the collision was investigated and cleared.
The Florida Highway Patrol says the cement truck driver had no opportunity to stop and avoid the collision. Channel 4 shows the video shot from the median where both vehicles ended up.
Our condolences to out to the family of Ms. Davis.
