A comment on Gov. Crist Supports Texting Ban This Legislative Session

Those figures are vastly under reported. The reason is that there is no specific line item on the attending officer's clipboard. Police officer's attention is devoted to A) making sure medical attention is provided for the injured. B) cleaning up the accident and getting traffic flow back in intact, and C) recording the accident. Don't forget most people are NOT going to simply volunteer the information that a cell phone caused the distraction.

A comment on Bicyclist Critical After Hit By Five Time DUI Offender

This just makes me sad. I think the law is way too lienent on alcohol related driving infractions. The fact that this guy is a FIVE time DUI offender should be enough to land his butt in jail for a couple years.

A comment on Floridians Get Three Moving Violations Then Lose License

Eddie, Florida must go one step further than that. My Mother, who was a Florida full time resident, had a valid Florida driver's license until she was 89 without having to appear for retesting, eye exam or written road test. She was certainly incapable of driving even short distances after the age of 87. It was with great difficulty that we managed to get her car away from her even at the age of 89. This problem is very real for the family who realize that not only will they injure/kill themselves but also whoever happens to be on the road around them. This problem needs to be addressed in Florida with so many seniors on the road who shouldn't be there.

A comment on Are Red-Light Cameras At Intersections A Good Idea?

City Councils and Commissions be warned - motorists will be watching you. Based on the discredited theory that these devices somehow save lives and reduce injuries, mismanaged cities and counties have been installing these devices to enhance their ill-gotten revenue streams.

Fact: In the state of Virginia, red light cameras were responsible for a 29 percent increase in injury crashes and a 41 percent rise in overall crashes at camera monitored intersections.

Fact: Georgia has increased yellow light times and reduced violations 80 percent at their camera intersections. This has caused cities to cancel their red light camera contracts.

Fact: When proper amber light times are set, violations and accidents drop. When lights are properly synchronized, extra time saved is an additional bonus.

The risks of traffic signal accidents is fairly low - About 3 percent of the total. As cameras spread throughout Florida, those numbers will rise.

Add Orange Park to the growing list of cities installing devices that endanger the motoring public to enhance their bottom line.

A comment on Tougher Seat Belt Laws In Florida

Ok I can see making kid under the age of 18 or some one that doesn’t have insurance to pay for medical or funeral expenses wear a seat belt. But I pay for my actions and no one is going to tell me what to do and I have that right (Thanks you all Veterans). This is a BS law for the state to make money. The seat belt law should be like the helmet law with age and insurance requirements.

A comment on Tougher Seat Belt Laws In Florida

I lost my son 4 years ago. A seat belt wouldn't have mettererd in his case. A deer went out in the road, my son avoided the deer going into left lane into an oncoming suv. he was behind the wheel, the airbags went off, but he still died, becuse his friends in the back seat didn't have his seat belt on, he pushed my son into the steering wheel. My son wearing a belt or not, probably wouldn't have mattered, but it would have mattered to his friend cause he was in abck seat and didn't wear his that day, I think everyone in car should be in seat belts, my son would be here today, as well s his friend, they both tragically died, needlessly!
