It was 3:30 in the morning and the entire family was driving north on the Florida Turnpike near the Osceola county line.

Apparently the woman driver fell asleep and the Ford Explorer rolled several times.

Eight passengers, including five children were thrown from the vehicle. No one had on a seat belt the Highway Patrol reports. The children ranged in ages from eight to 14. The were all from the West Palm Beach area.

A 25-year old man died at the scene.

SUV's are a very popular way to transport children but Public Citizen reports there are twice the deaths for SUVs in a rollover than from minivans.

That's because SUVs use a truck chassis and are not redesigned as a passenger vehicle. The high profile of the vehicle makes it prone to rollover.

Since 1991, SUV rollovers have killed more than 18,000 Americans.

An online campaign asks you to contact your representatives in Congress to require SUVs have safer passenger standards.
