The eastbound lanes of I-10 turned into a parking lot for three hours before dawn Monday after three tractor-trailers collided.

FHP reports that a big rig driven east by Michael Suber of Callahan approached two semi-trucks that had already collided. Suber couldn't stop in time and hit both trucks.

The chain reaction left one driver with seriouis injuries. Suber is cited with careless driving. The driver of the semi that was strewn across the right lane of I-10 was also cited for careless driving in the first crash.

The FHP said 10 other crashes in the area through the morning were related to the I-10 pile up. The most serious was an overturned car at the Chaffee Road entrance of I-10. It was not known if there were injuries in that wreck.

The interstate was opened up for traffic about 9 a.m.
