I've had a discussion with other parents lately.

Doesn't 16 seem too young to have the responsibility of driving an automobile? Don't 16-year olds today seem younger than they were in my time? (Now I'm sounding like an old guy).

But really, not only do children stay dependent on their parents a bit longer these days, perhaps because of financial necessity, but the roads are meaner and more crowded. It takes maturity to maneuver them with patience and competence.

A top high school athlete and another 16 year old are among the latest children who died when trying to maneuver a vehicle.

Police report that Dante Anderson was annoyed at the slow speed of the car in front of him. He drove into the median trying to pass the car but instead he lost control of his vehicle and hit a palm tree. it fell on the car killing the teens and injuring two others in the vehicle.

Anderson was a basketball player at Eastside High School. In 2006, he was named the FHSAA Final 4's MVP.

16 just seems so young to have so much responsibility.
