It is already happening in Europe--fewer nighttime accidents due to a new green technology.

SolarLite Smart Studs are being installed on some dark roads in England.

They appear as the little white reflectors but are powered by solar energy.

Inside they have a miniature solar ray catching panel as well as LED lights and a reflecting surface.

The early reports are good. Drivers seems to have ten times more visibility at night.

Imagine using these on roads where there are no street lights. In Florida and south Georgia, you are talking about a lot of back roads that qualify.

The LED-based units reportedly extend driver reaction time from 3.2-seconds to over half a minute when cruising at 60mph, have an expected lifespan of eight to ten years and are said to have reduced night time accidents in certain areas by over 70-percent.

The maker, Astucia reportedly has no plans to sell in the U.S.- but why not?
