A third death resulting from eating fresh spinach has been reported according to health officials.

Ruby Trautz, from Sarpy County, Nebraska, is the latest victim. She was 84-year-old woman and ate spinach contaminated with the same strain of E. coli that has sickened at least 190 other people around the country

Her death was confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

This news comes one day after Idaho health officials confirmed that a 2-year-old boy had died from eating contaminated spinach.

Less than a week ago the FDA lifted a consumer warning on the potential hazards of eating fresh spinach. Authorities are looking into records of two California produce companies for possible environmental-law violations.
