Last November Jennifer Backman, a Navy wife gave the government a notice of intent to file a $5 million suit against the government. The allegations allege Navy surgeons at the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida used unsterilized instruments during an operation.

The hospital's commanding officer, Capt. Raquel Bono, denied such claims, stating, "We would never use dirty or contaminated instruments
.

On January 11, 2007, a portion of Ms. Backman's health record was released to the media, which revealed an unsterilized tray exposed to another patient was used during the surgery.
These records from the surgeon, Eugenio Conception also indicated Ms Beckman was notified. She underwent diagnostic tests and took precautionary antibodies. Capt Bono would only admit a mistake had been made.

This is not the first time the Naval Hospital has been under fire. Over the past year $71 million has been awarded against the hospital.
