Many of these complications included medical objects left inside patients after surgery. These are preventable medical errors. The most serious complications were post-surgery sepsis. Improved medical practice including better hand-washing would help reduce rates of complications. Hospitals and bureaucrats need to enforce sanitary practices to protect the public.
Here are some tips to help prevent medical errors.
Become active in your health care. "Tell your doctor about the every prescription, over-the-counter medicine, and dietary supplements such as vitamins and herbs you are taking. Everyone should have at least an annual visit with their doctor. Take all medicines and supplements with you. Discuss any problems you are experiencing, such as allergies or adverse reactions, with your doctor. This will allow your doctor to make informed decisions on necessary changes and also ensure your records are updated. This information becomes extremely important should in the event you require hospitalization.
When health care corporations and bureaucratic regulators fail to protect the public, the civil justice system is the last resort for injured patients to hold wrongdoers accountable.
