Substandard care of nursing home residents makes jurors angry.

Nursing home abuse is abounded and often involves deaths, horrible injuries, dehydration, malnutrition, fractures, and brain injuries. Most jurors walking in to a courtroom believe that nursing homes value profit more than resident care. These types of lawsuits are about monetary damages.

Jurors feel sorry for the plaintiff that they think money will not be enough to make up for the damage done, but it also makes them so uncomfortable that they view plaintiff unfavorably.

Jurors can be convinced they will make a difference. Pointing out pressure sores; dehydration, and malnourishment doesn't have to happen.
.

In a recent study almost half of the nursing homes studies had insufficient nurse aide staffing and needed to hire 50 percent more nurse aides and nurses to reach minimum federal standards. Poor wages is one factor. Fast food chains are paying a better hourly rate than most nursing homes. However, corporations are making a big profit.

These cases are not about one individual; they are about how the community treats elderly. Juries in nursing home cases set the standard for acceptable care.
