According to a recent study for more than 2,000 women breast cancer may be more aggressive and harder-to-treat than those of other races.

Dr. Wendy Woodward of the University of Texas compared records of black, Hispanic and white women. They found that tumors in black women were more aggressive, and significantly harder to treat.

African-American women more frequently had ER-negative disease and high-grade tumor and are associated with a poorer survival rate.

Breast cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in U.S. women after lung cancer. It is also the Number 1 killer of women age 45 to 55.
