A recent study utilizing computerized screen for lung cancer strongly suggests that screening smokers for lung cancer and cave lives.

In the study, early detentions of lung tumors by CT scans and prompt removal have an estimated 10-year survival rate of 92 percent. Dr. Robert Smith, director of screening at the American Cancer Society reported that screening might offer advantages in saving lives from ">lung cancer. He further stated although the study lacked a comparison group he does not believe this invalidates early diagnosis.

Lung cancer is the worlds top cancer killer. About 174,470 Americans and one million people worldwide will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year. The vast majority will die, largely because the disease is found too late for treatment. Only 16 percent of cases in the US are detection in Stage 1, when tumors are still confined to the lung.

Using this high-tech x-ray can reveal pea-sized growths even before symptoms appear.
