Be sure your little ones and teens have a safe Halloween. It is not the time you want to end up in the emergency room and unfortunately all of the excitement of the night often ends up there.
Here are some tips for parents and kids:

*Tripping and falling in the dark of Halloween night is a danger. Make sure costumes don't obscure eyes and kids have flashlights that securely fit in their smaller hands. Adults size lights don't always. No long skirts, or sleeves or props with sharp ends. And teens should be very mindful that they will be in groups with smaller children who they can easily knock over. Put reflective tape on your child's costume. Get it from a bicycle or hardware store.

The CPSC says burns from open flames, candles and Jack O'Lanterns are another danger. Parents, put open flames out of reach and costumes should be nylon and polyester (less flammable) and not drag on the sidewalk.

For Parents:

* A decent full size meal before trick or treating means your kids will be less likely to fill up on candy. Same goes for you too!
* Good time to talk to your kids about getting in a stranger's car or going into homes of people they don't know.
* Absolutely know what routes your children will take. Stay in the neighborhood, and wear a watch, returning home at a specific time. It's preferable to stay with your children.
* Teenagers will object to this but it's time to be a parent. If they want to go without you, hiring a nearby responsible teen to accompany them might be a good alternative. Keeping a cellphone ON is a must. Again the watch and a prearranged return time since the next day is school.
* "Tricks" are not allowed nor is harm to animals on Halloween night.

Have a safe one!!
