It was a victory for everyone and proved the legal system works the way it is supposed to.
Judge Roy pearson had sued a Washington D.C. dry cleaner saying they lost his pair of pants and the inconvenience should be compensated $67 million dollars!
A judge hearing the case has now shot down that argument allowing the dry cleaner to be compensated $1,000 for court costs and to motion for legal fees.
For the first time, there was agreement across the board on this lawsuit. Both tort reformers and the trial lawyers who represent people who have been harmed, agreed that this was a ridiculous case and an example of a frivolous lawsuit.
And to be filed by an administrative law judge who should know better! It makes you wonder about whether he is fit to sit on the bench.
During his two-day trial, Pearson reportedly broke down in tears while testifying about his problem pants.
He had to rent a car to travel to another dry cleaner, he complained. And the shop, owned by a Korean couple, had promised "Satisfaction Guaranteed" yet had failed to deliver, he argued. But to deaf ears.
Satisfaction Guaranteed does not apply to unreasonable demands ruled Judge Judith Bartnoff in District of Columbia Superior Court.
Judge Pearson is not taking any cases while the future of his $96,000 a year job is being re-evaluated.
