On Friday the government fined the American Red Cross $4.2 million for failing to ask appropriate questions of potential donors and not following test procedures. This is the largest single penalty assessed under terms of a2003 court settlement, which allows for large fines when Red Cross violates FDA rules. The FDA has previously been fined a total of $5.7 million.

The American Red Cross is committed to full compliance with the amended consent decree and all application federal regulations and planned to respond to the FA within 20 days.
