They are men with an average age of 35.

That's who is most likely to be injured by a nail gun. It sounds like a pretty good excuse to get out of home repairs to me.

Duke University researchers find the number of do-it-yourselfers who are unintentionally injuring themselves with multiple firing nail guns, more than tripled between 1991 and 2005. 14,800 per year were recorded according to the researchers.

Their findings are being published in the April 13th issue of Morbidity and Mortality Report from the CDC.

There is a safer kind of nail gun to purchase.

The Duke researchers said that many injuries caused by nail guns could be prevented by using tools that fire only when the nosepiece is depressed before the trigger is pulled. This "sequential" trigger mechanism is designed to prevent rapid, unintentional firing, but it has not been used as much as tools that allow the user to rapidly "bounce fire" nails.

We've already talked about Florida's rising construction site injuries that correspond to our multi-billion dollar construction boom. A record number of workplace fatalities have been recorded in 2004- 422. The numbers a year later were down slightly, 404, but still are the second-highest number of deaths in Florida since numbers have been tracked.
